A concept: the music calendar. I'm not sure if you noticed, but the release of certain music runs on a very specific schedule. Have you noticed that a lot of new songs and albums are being released during this time of year? I like to think of this time being the time of "summer hits."
Usually music released in April-June is the perfect time for it to get enough radio play that it becomes a new favorite by the listeners. Since we're also nearing summer time, that means these songs that become the new favorites are in even more demand. Listeners are out of school or work and they want to hear their favorite songs more often. It becomes a summer hit as people listen to it on vacations or when they go road tripping or out to bars and parties.
Have you even noticed that certain holiday themed songs come out around November - just in time for the holiday season.
I'm telling you, record labels work with a music calendar. Let me put it in simpler terms. It's like posting on Instagram. You gotta post it at prime posting hours so it's more likely to get seen by your followers. Now apply that to music. Record labels, indie labels, and individual bands/artists, release their music during prime releasing time. Some really don't give a shit and will just drop an album without warning (aka Beyoncé with Lemonade). But most will plan ahead and make sure that in order for the single/album to gain the most listeners, the music itself must be planned and released at the perfect moment.
Hence why I like to discuss this, the music calendar. What are your thoughts?
later days xx
